The Acer Swift 5

Acer Swift 5

(4.5 / 5)

When I had my first look at the Acer Swift 5, I wasn’t sure what to think. £900 for a laptop with Intel core i5 didn’t seem like such a good deal, but as you delve closer into the details of the laptop, you start to see that is offers much more value than that. It’s peculiar to see a full fledged laptop weighing in at under 1kg, and for that I thought that there may be some kind of performance compromise, instead I was pleased with the overall speed (due to the 8th gen Intel processors) and beautiful wide viewing display (albeit not 4K)

  • Price: £899.00 – Amazon
  • 1.6GHz Intel Core i5–8250U
  • 256GB SSD
  • 14” 1920×1080 IPS display
  • 2xUSB 3.0, 1xUSB 3.1 Type–C, 1xHDMI
  • 1kg

Lets start with the processor, it features a Intel core i5 8th gen (1.6GHz; i5–8250U), which is nippy enough to do most tasks at a good speed.

Moving onto the reddot award winning design, While certain laptops sell themselves as featherweight machines, the Swift 5 puts all of them to shame. That magnesium alloy chassis is impressively thin, still under 15mm at its thickest point. However, the highlight is definitely that sub-1kg (970g) weight. It feels like Acer has forgotten to put those computery bits inside the frame. The keyboard is well-sized.

Surprisingly for the form factor, the swift actually features quite allot of different ports, Two USB 3.0 and a USB 3.1 Type-C port, boasting incredible transfer speeds. There’s HDMI for connecting the Swift 5 to a projector, TV or monitor.

The screen is great due to it’s 180 degree angles, it’s definitely not incredible but good enough for viewing movies. Speaking of movies, the Acer Swift 5 comes with Dolby speakers, which sound great.

In a weird kinda way, I really like the hinge of the swift, its not too stiff, but not too loose either.

The only negatives, fingerprint sensor (Slow, inaccurate), camera (Awful) and overall fragility and plasticy feel of the laptop. I would also say that the price is fairly high. These are only minor but knock down the laptop 0.5/stars.

We would highly recommend this laptop (purchase here)
